As Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand) promised, it’s time for a wonderful day, especially for those who are fans of a certain sci-fi saga. Yes, director Wes Ball’s summer movie success, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is giving fans a reason to celebrate because the latest installment in the Planet of the Apes franchise drops Friday, August 2 on Hulu. The film’s streaming debut (per Deadline) comes just three months after the action adventure began its theatrical run back on May 10. And Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is one of the early 2024 summer movie season participants which actually found success.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes scored roughly the same with critics and fans. Ball’s sequel to 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes registers 80% on the Tomatometer and holds a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 77%, at the time of this writing. And cinephiles gave Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes a “B” CinemaScore. Despite some average-to-slightly-above-average grades, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes still performed modestly well at the box office.

Undoubtedly, the success of the Planet of the Apes franchise will ensure future big-screen installments, and Kevin Durand is just hoping that Proximus Caesar’s death won’t stop the Kingdom’s baddie from returning someday. Durand said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:
“Does Proximus crawl out of that ocean? You didn’t see his body. You just saw a big splash. He’s a gigantic, magnificent creature, and given the density of that beast, did he make it? I don’t know… but I think that there is a chance [Proximus survives] in Apes.”
